The BMW iX3’s 800-volt architecture supports up to 400 kW peak charging. In theory, that would deliver the fastest mid-size EV charge available. In practice, UK chargers at 300 kW-plus are rare outside a small number of Gridserve sites. At 150 kW (the most common rapid speed on the UK motorway network), the iX3’s effective charge speed is similar to 800-volt competitors. The promise is there for future-proofing as the network upgrades.
