Who we are

EV Compared ("we", "us") publishes electric-vehicle news and guides at evcompared.co.uk. For the purposes of the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018 we are the data controller for personal data collected through this website. The data we collect

• Contact form data. Your name, email address, chosen subject and the content of your message.
• Usage data. If you consent to analytics cookies: pages viewed, approximate location at city level, referring site, device and browser type, and time on page.
• Technical data. Server logs kept by our hosting provider, including IP address and request details, used for security and to keep the site running.
• Preferences. Your cookie choices and dark-mode setting, stored in your browser.

We do not knowingly collect special category data, and the site is not directed at children under 13.

Cookies and similar technologies

We set only strictly necessary cookies and local storage until you tell us otherwise. Who we share data with

We do not sell your personal data. We share it only with service providers who process it on our instructions:

• Netlify, for website hosting and form submission handling
• Google, for analytics and advertising measurement, where you have consented

We may also disclose data where we are legally required to do so. Where a provider processes data outside the UK, transfers are covered by UK adequacy regulations or by the International Data Transfer Addendum to the EU standard contractual clauses.

How long we keep it

• Contact form messages: up to 24 months after our last exchange
• Analytics data: up to 14 months
• Server logs: up to 30 days
• Cookie consent record: 12 months, after which we will ask you again

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to:

• ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you
• have inaccurate data corrected
• ask us to delete your data
• ask us to restrict how we use it
• object to processing based on our legitimate interests
• receive your data in a portable format
• withdraw consent at any time, without affecting earlier processing

Complaints

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, please tell us first so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.

Security

The site is served over HTTPS and access to form submissions and subscriber lists is restricted to the people who need it. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your data.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the site or the law changes. The date at the top shows when it was last revised. Material changes affecting how we use your data will be flagged on the site.
