About EV Compared
Independent electric-vehicle journalism for UK drivers: news, reviews, charging guides and the numbers behind running an EV.
EV Compared exists because buying and running an electric vehicle in the UK still involves too much guesswork. Official range figures rarely match a cold motorway run, charging prices change without much warning, and the tax rules around EVs move almost every Budget. We publish the news, the comparisons and the running-cost maths that help drivers make a decision they will not regret in three years.
What we cover
- Cars and vans. New model launches, price changes, real-world range and head-to-head comparisons across the UK market.
- Charging. Public network pricing and reliability, home charger choices, off-peak tariffs and the cost per mile that actually results.
- Policy and incentives. Grants, benefit-in-kind and company-car tax, VED changes, ZEV mandate developments and what they mean in practice.
- Deals. Notable lease and finance offers, with the assumptions spelled out rather than buried.
How we work
Range figures are official WLTP combined values taken from manufacturer UK specification pages, with real-world estimates drawn from independent comparative testing. Prices are UK list prices at the time of the most recent update. Grant, tax and charging-scheme rules come from GOV.UK, HMRC and the network operators themselves. Where a figure is contested or moves frequently, we say so in the article rather than presenting a single number as settled fact.
Articles are written and maintained by the EV Compared editorial team. We update pieces in place when the underlying numbers change, and we date every update so you can see how current a figure is. You can read more about the team on our editorial team page.
Independence and how we make money
EV Compared is funded by advertising and by affiliate commission on some outbound links to dealers, leasing brokers, charger installers and energy suppliers. If you buy or enquire through one of those links, we may earn a fee at no extra cost to you.
Commercial relationships never determine which products we cover, what we say about them or how they rank. No advertiser is shown coverage before publication, and no payment can buy a recommendation. Where a page contains affiliate links or sponsored content, we label it.
